Welcome to my oasis....
There was a time when these walls and ceiling were a blah white and a dusty ceiling fan with a broken glass globe whirled lazily around and around. Both were banished forever. The heart of my major master make-over is the satin draped around the light fixture and from the ceiling. I wanted the room to feel luxurious and romantic. I really feel like I captured the mood I was trying to achieve I LOVE it. The dark chocolate color is not only fabulously yummy looking but makes the room feel cozy and sets the right mood.

I really wanted a canopy bed but didn't have the budget to go out and buy one so I hung extra fabric around my bed. Instead of satin I chose a sheer see-through fabric and I installed coat hooks on either side of the bed so I could pull back the fabric if I didn't want it hanging straight down.. I really feel like this is the sexiest element to the room. I LOVE it!
From this angle you can see the custom headboard I made. I literally hot glued white satin to a piece of foam and nailed it to the wall. I then draped the other two fabrics and added the flower. { Which actually came off a shirt I bought on clearance and never wore! } The teal that matches the bedspread is part of the dust ruffle that I murdered because I didn't need it. The bedspread is a king and our bed is only a full so it adequately covers the bed from top to bottom. I hadn't originally intended to put our bed by the window but it ended up fitting here best. I love it though and wouldn't change it for anything because laying in bed at night I can look up and out at the stars... SO romantic and peaceful! I also love how the sunshine pours in come morning... the best part is by closing the blinds we can easily sleep in on Saturdays!

This pretty window arrangement actually consists of two great storage units. On bottom is a plastic flip-top box filled to the brim with old yearbooks, and other such memento's. I covered it with a piece of white satin and then on top is a refinished old ar*my am*mo box Josh's Mom made. The picture's on it are my hubby as a child dressed in ar*my clothes and then pictures of him in his real sol*dier duds. It is filled with our love letters from his time spent in training and overseas. Of course pretty flowers and a yummy candle complete the look.
Little touches of color are sprinkled throughout the room...

Some beautiful artwork that matches the color of our bedding...

This is one of two bookshelves. I have big plans to one day build myself a custom bookshelf but am waiting for my hubby to collect enough scrap wood. There is no way I am going to pay full price for new lumber!
I originally intended to have a hammock here. That didn't happen but its okay because I absolutely adore this chair. I bought it for my brother's room because it was originally BRIGHT orange which just happens to be one of his school colors. My Mom greatly disliked it though so I reclaimed it and transformed it with some soft suede like fabric I stapled on... couldn't have planned it better myself! The pillows again match the bedding and the trees bring a touch of elegance to the room. You can't see it very well but this corner of the room has several iron sculptures that all hold candles and their are mirrors and a pretty floor lamp behind the chair. I am pretty sure this corner is a fire hazard but it is beautiful... and really... is there anything more romantic than candle light? Seriously though I just love my little corner. The bookshelves are on either side of this chair and I just LOVE being able to sit and read. The ultimate escape!
The best part about my major master make-over is the budget....
Fabric -$22 from Wal*Mart.. (Most of it was donated by my Mother who has a huge stash of fabric. I only bought the sheer and white satin. All the satin hanging from the ceiling was donated.)
Bedding $0 - given to me by my Mom because it didn't match her bedroom
Flowers -$5.75 - bought at various yard sales
Trees -$30 - my biggest expense but well worth it, I am pretty sure just one retails for WAY more than that but I got them at a yard sale
Iron Wall Decor -$0 - given to me by my super sweet neighbor and my Mom
New Light Fixture $25ish from Low*s (I can't remember exactly.)
Chocolate colored Paint -$10 - 2 gallon's on sale as a mis-tint for $5 each!!! Exactly the color I wanted!!!
Selling my 4 piece bedroom suite to make room for the transformation process +$100
Total cost of my Major Mastor Make-Over... $0... I actually ended up making $... how AWESOME is that!?!?!?!?! Especially considering HGTV usually spends about $1000 on their cheapest bedroom makeovers!
Once upon a time there was a girl who dreamed of having a relaxing oasis to escape to... but never in her wildest dreams did she imagine it being this AMAZING. I sure do enjoy transforming our house into a cozy home!
PS) If you are wondering where our clothes are since we sold our dressers we have two closets where most everything is hung, things like socks and un-mentionables are in whicker baskets on a shelving unit.
PPS) I must confess I still need to paint the closet doors and paint the trim... I have been to lazy to do the doors yet, and I am waiting to find a good can of paint on sale for cheap so I can do the trim!
